Unable to Run Mac Version (Community)
Since we have the Community Edition available for both PC and Mac, I thought, "Why don't I install LiveCode on both of my platforms?" The installation for the PC version went well, but when attempting to download the Mac version, I was asked to re-register. This was a confusing process that ended up...

Re: Darker Interface for Sore and Ailing Eyes
I would be interested in trying your plug-in, as well. Can you post where to find it?

Re: Darker Interface for Sore and Ailing Eyes
This is a beautiful tool you have designed here, Mr. Wieder.
I hope I can follow the installation instructions for Mac. And, learn it well enough to use its many features.
Coding is hard and we all need as much help as we can get. Thanks for this wonderful contribution.

Re: Darker Interface for Sore and Ailing Eyes
Those who suffer with eyestrain and damage from prolonged and excessive use of software know what I am referring to regarding interfaces. Even having on screen a predominance of elements with lightly colored backgrounds causes more strain and glare - and in a coding or design environment the exposur...

Darker Interface for Sore and Ailing Eyes
I think LiveCode would be the most ideal programming environment if it allowed for a "dark-themed" interface - especially in the "code entry" portions. My eyes have been fried by almost 30 years of stark black on stark white interface themes. That, and glossy monitors with lots of glare. Is there an...

Re: Why Do Global Variables Start With The Word "Local"?
Wow! I'm thoroughly impressed with the speed and comprehensive response by my fellow forum members - and completely taken aback by the swiftness of action by the LiveCode staff - even to the point of updating the very document in question, on the very same morning I asked my question. Thank you all,...

Re: Why Do Global Variables Start With The Word "Local"?
The lesson is entitled: "How Do I Create Animated Overlays": http://lessons.runrev.com/s/lessons/m/4071/l/44418-How-do-I-Create-Animated-Overlays- This is something I really want to understand, because it is such a common "gaming" task. Anyone making character based games will need to know this - an...

Why Do Global Variables Start With The Word "Local"?
I'm brand new to the LiveCode language - having become attracted to it because of its lack of ambiguity. And, upon trying to understand my very first lesson, I came across this puzzling set of instructions: Global Variables The variables maintain information that is relevant to each iteration of the...

Spline Based, Tweened Animation Software Development
Having worked with many 2D animation programs (and being dissatisfied), I have considered the possibility of developing a prototype, myself. I thought I would try to get the opinion of users of LiveCode regarding how difficult such an endeavor would turn out to be. Basically, this vector drawing and...

I guess my question is - who, in their right mind, would pick something like maintaining code for a profession and even a career? Not I.

Re: Substituting Animated Buttons or Sprites for Default Buttons
Thank you Richard. But, to me, it seems like the shoe is still being put on the wrong foot - and the horse is riding behind the cart - (and other colloquial sayings). The machine we designed to be a servant is still being treated like the master. We are being forced to twist our minds around the "re...

Re: Substituting Animated Buttons or Sprites for Default Buttons
I didn't see the "Local sIconList . . . " variable declaration because it was off the screen when I opened the script. Shux. So, now I understand the prefix "c" for "custom" and "u" for "user" (defined), now, where does the prefix "s" come in (as in "s"IconList). And let me interject something here:...

Re: Substituting Animated Buttons or Sprites for Default Buttons
Thanks for the detailed description. There are, however, a few things I don't understand: What is a "flag"? (my guess that it is a boolean something that is either on or off). Nobody has explained this term yet. When was "sIconList" declared, where is the declaration? Where is it listed in any kind ...

Re: Substituting Animated Buttons or Sprites for Default Buttons
Sparkout: Perhaps you didn't want this to turn into a teaching session, and, if so, I totally understand. Having only the resources given with the LiveCode app, I've looked up some of the terms in the "Dictionary", only to find no entries. I also looked into the "Variables" category at the bottom of...

Re: Substituting Animated Buttons or Sprites for Default Buttons
Thanks.
This is pretty much what I was trying to understand, however I don't seem to be able to view any code.
I'm brand new to LiveCode, so it is probably just my ignorance kicking in.
