in a select statement valentina uses % as a wildcard. As far as i can see, runrev converts % to * before passing the query to valentina when the function revDataFromQuery is used.

If I am correct is this being my problem, is there any way of passing the % character through to valentina.

You should ask about this over on the Valentina mailing list - there are engineers there that can help answer this question.
