Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
Building on OS X on a MacBook Pro 2.8GHz Intel with Snow Leopard 10.6.2
I have been using version 4.5 mainly editing and running within the rev environment.
It seems to be mainly OK and builds applications which run on all environments.
Recently updated to 4.5 dp-2 and it can't build working stand alone apps at all for OS X.
It does not seem to matter if built as Universal, PPC or Intel, the apps just crash during startup.
Building a Windows app. seems to be Ok except for a missing default icon.
I have also tried building the same stack with dp-2 on a Mac Mini G4 with Leopard 10.5.8 -
It has the same problems.
All options for building are the defaults
It looks like dp-2 has major building problems with OS X
(There is also a missing icon fault warning during build!)

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
Please always remember that dp means developer preview. The latest *stable* release is rev 4.0 gm 1.
In the dps flaky behaviour is to be expected and information about the development progress is available on the improve revolution list and / or quality.runrev.com
Cheers,
Malte

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
I know that dp-2 is a development release:
Having searched the forums and also the bug reporting system before posting the message, I couldn't find any mention (or warning) of this rather major bug.
The idea of reporting bugs is so that they can be fixed.
The only reason I posted here rather than starting a bug ticket was to be sure that others had the same problem and it wasn't an oddity.
If no-one has reported it, and no-one from RunRev has thought to mention that there was a problem, then how is it "a known bug"?

Hi Doug,
this one came up on the "improve-revolution" user list and was "noted" by the dev team there.
That's why no bug report seemed to be made.
You should consider to get a subscription to the improve list.

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
I assume that "Someone" eg.me, should add it now in the QA system as a reported bug then?
It will save someone else spending hours checking different OS's and versions like I had to do before "reporting" it.
I have been holding off joining the dev lists etc. as I have so much email already, but Yes, I should really do it.

Hey doug,
no evil intentions behind my post. If it sounded too harsh, I apologize. I can only encourage you, to join the improve list. It certainly has many benefits, and it used to be pretty low traffic over there. One of the upsides of holding an enterprise license is that list really, as it is rather quick discussing problems as the one you encountered, very often with direct feedback and patches from the mothership.
All the best,
Malte

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
I have now filed the ONLY EXISTING report of this bug.
I called it "Stand-Alone applications for Mac OS X crash on startup"
Bug 8604 marked as unconfirmed, and critical.
No-one has confirmed it as yet, but it has the target milestone set to 4.5dp-3

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
It's now the 19th of Feb 2010 - 10 days after this "known" bug actually eventually got reported.
The report is still unconfirmed and no-one has voted on it!
How do we get someone to officially acknowledge that a bug exists and is going to be acted on?
By the way, I had added this as an edit to earlier post, but that does not count as an update to draw attention to the post update in this system.
Surely an update to a post should be shown on the index?

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
Doug...
I posted the problem to the 'improve-revolution@lists.runrev.com' on feb 5 and got a quick reply from runrev... they are aware of the problem and will be fixed for the release of rev 4.5 dp-3... they even posted a workaround... but I can't seem to find the email... perhaps someone else has the relevant posting to the improve lists and can help here ?!
Suffice to say the workaround worked and I am building standalones for dp-2 under OSX
hope someone helps

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
As I said above - Bug 8604 in the QAcentre is STILL marked as unconfirmed and it is now 21 days after reporting!
There is still no obvious sign that anyone is paying any attention to the QA system.
Surely the QA system is there to flag up problems, if it just gets ignored then there is no point.
Separate issue-
I accept that it may have been mentioned on the improve-list, but as I am using a new email address that doesn't match my subscription, I was refused access to it.
I will arrange to be authorised to get the improve-list.
Edited 20 March 2010 - Thanks Oliver, the QAcentre bug report has now been acknowledged and is repaired in v4.5 dp-3

Re: Rev 4.5 dp-2 can't build working Apps on OS X
What is the workaround to this issue while we wait for dp-3?
I Just ran into the same problem after an upgrade yesterday. When I opened up Rev Enterprise it prompted me for the upgrade. I cannot remember if it mentioned the upgrade as a stable release or not just clicked ok and I got 4.5.0 dp-2.
After finding my existing applications were crashing on startup after a rebuild. I tried a basic default application with exactly the same problem with Mac OSX 10.5.8.

sdunne,
dp-3 is still beta software, so don't expect it to be in a final release state. For anything outside of testing you should use 4.0
