LiveCode 4.6.3: Server Released, Android updated

This is a courtesy customer notification of a new LiveCode release. You are receiving it because you own a LiveCode or Revolution license.

I'm delighted to announce that LiveCode 4.6.3 was released today. This release includes the first full release of the LiveCode Server platform. Also added are some new Android features, minor improvements, fixes and enhancements across all platforms.

Cloud and web application development can be a complex process - our goal is to produce the world's easiest server scripting environment. Control your server processes using English rather than arcane symbols.

The server engine is a separate build of the LiveCode engine with specific syntax and functionality that makes it suitable for use in command-line contexts and, in particular, as a CGI processor. The pre-release has been available for some time and this first full release of Server is now ready for you to use to support your Mobile and Desktop apps with powerful backend processing and data management in the cloud.

If you have a 4.6.x license for LiveCode, you will be able to download this new release from your account. If you do not yet have a LiveCode 4.6 license you can log in to your account and update your license if you wish to do so:

Server
-------

New features in this Server engine include:

* Support for Windows installation

* Support for using stacks from LiveCode Server

* Full integration of Server into the main LiveCode engine branch - all features and fixes added since 3.5 now become available to Server

* The server engine build on Mac is now 'proper' Mac rather than Darwin, this affects various system functions such as date/time, filename handling, text conversion etc.

* A number of other features and enhancements.

Android
--------

This release also includes some new Android features:

* Video playback: you can now play back fullscreen video in your Android apps.

* Manifest support: All Android applications have a manifest that is built into the package which controls many aspects of the applications requirements and functionality. To set the manifest up, you can now simply use the options presented in the Standalone Builder's Android pane.

* Improved Camera support: take or choose photos from your library, camera or album

* Orientation Handling Updated: You can now set the orientation specifically for your target device to avoid issues with items appearing inverted or upside down

4.6.3 includes a fully updated LiveCode Dictionary. All Mobile and Server specific terms should now be defined in the dictionary, available under your Help menu.

There are also some minor improvements on the desktop, and over 20 bug fixes and enhancements across all platforms. For full details, please refer to the release notes for iOS, Android and Desktop respectively, available under your Help menu inside LiveCode.
