Why no heads up or mention on why RunRev and LiveCode Forums have been down?

Why no heads up or mention on why RunRev and LiveCode Forums have been down?
Hi Barry,

The question answers itself. No heads up because the forums themselves were down.

Indeed ! !! And what about the mailing lists ?

They are down.

A heads up is an advanced warning.
We probably didn't get a heads up because the outage was unanticipated by the moderators.
Once down, the forums were useless for communicating anything.

So, why were the forums down?
I don't know.
The cause is probably related to whatever also brought down runrev.com and the mailing lists, which are still down, as was noted.
That's quite a long outage for an Internet service.
I'm glad the forums are up again and that on-rev.com did not go down.

Still not a straight answer.
You're not really posting anything that anyone else can simply deduce.

Anyone can speculate.
Anyone can post an "I don't know".

"Currently Experiencing Technical Difficulties. Investigating Now and Will Return ASAP"
is a heads up. And shows someone is actively working on the issue.

As I said in my first reply to you, it was impossible for the moderators to post
"Currently Experiencing Technical Difficulties. Investigating Now and Will Return ASAP"
precisely BECAUSE the forum was down.
That is an answer but probably not the one you were looking for.

I'm certain the runrev folks will tell us 'why' once they have re-established all lines of communication.
They are very responsive and always keep us informed.

Here is what I know, by deduction and from private emails from other customers:

In the 12+ years I've known this company, this has never happened before. Ergo: unforseen problem.
Mail to staff is bouncing. Ergo: email gateway is hosed, or they can't post.
Mailing lists have been offline for 2 days. Mailing lists, especially the dev list, are the main communication channels from the company. Ergo: server is whacked.
So far I have always been able to reach the main site, but have learned that reachability is intermitent for some and remains impossible for others. The company would never, ever intentionally let their main entry page go down. Ergo: server is whacked. Or maybe DNS.
Finally, based on what I know about the staff, if there were some way to inform you, they would have.

You could always fly to Scotland and offer assistance if you like. :)

PS: "hosed" and "whacked" are technical terms.

RunRev sells internet software and internet services and can't keep their own site up.

Hi,

I think this thread should have been in off-topic and not in announcements :P
(just so I've something to complain about, too)

A week now and still down?

And still no professional notice?

These smart alic responses are making a joke out of RunRev and RunRev services.

Well done.

Hi Barry,

On Monday, I received an e-mail telling me to try again if I had been trying to buy something from the RunRev store last weekend.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi Barry,

a short notice on twitter on 24th:
http://twitter.com/#!/runrev
also on Facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/RunRev

And I also did get the letter Mark mentioned which explained it was not a hacker attac.

The whole site went down Friday 21st in the afternoon european time, was up again on monday 24th in the morning, a couple of hickups on monday during the day. Now it seems to be running fine.

Kind regards

Bernd
