iOS development and release, path and license needed?

Post by PixelPaul » Tue Apr 15, 2014 4:50 am

hi all,
hoping someone can help me as i am a bit lost. I want to develop an iOS app and other mobile platforms too if possible.
now this is for a non profit charity and it is going to be a free app.
what licenses and things do i need to be able to develop it with livecode and release it into the Apple App Store.
i do have an apple developer account, but not sure if i can afford the commercial livecode if it is needed.
can i build it in the community edition of livecode and release it to the app store with my own apple developer account? and if so, is it easy?
thanks for any information that can be provided.

Hi PixelPaul,
Welcome to the forum! :)

Well we had a quick meeting after seeing your post. Sorry for the delay, Ben was scuba diving in the Bahamas and we had to set up ship to shore comms. Heather was in Africa taking orphan chimpanzee's to shelter, at least she had a land-line. Fraser was the most problematic as he decided this week was a good week to go backpacking in the Himalayas, lucky there was a supply helicopter heading out today.
And have built this just for you:

Because you don't know me I have to tell you the above was a joke, the people are real.
But they did really only just made this announcement a couple of wees ago I think.

thanks :? i guess.
i saw that membership. which is possible. but the $99 is what i spent on the iOS developer account with apple to release apps to their app store. so i was wondering do i still need that livecode membership when i have the apple developer account to upload to the app store?

Looking at the license comparison chart on the LC site, you can't deploy to the iOS with the community edition.

Hi PixelPaul,
It's that
The Apple iOS App Store is currently incompatible with the GPL license,
Apple does not allow open source software to be in the Apple iOS App store.
The Membership option makes it so you don't have to have a commercial liveCode licence.

Short, No, even with the iOS Developers membership you cannot upload to Apple iOS App Store using the community version of liveCode.

For the "official" word on student/charity you should write to
support@runrev.com

Most of us are liveCode users like you.
