getting started accelerometer

i'm looking for a way to use the accelerometer. the tutorials are unacceptable due to the fact i'm not trying to make a level( i want the bare bones basic, just move something no boundaries). All i am trying to find is an example of is how to convert the values to the movement of an object on screen. as a beginner, i think it would be nice to learn basic movement before making a level. i got it to work just playing around with move command but that doesn't work very well based when changing the tilt of the iphone.
