Export photo to sms app

Is there a way to export/paste a picture from my app into a text message? I don't see anything in the release notes or the livecode lessons other than being able to export to email.

There's no API for that even for externals. You might need to look at a gateway.

Which for newbies like me begs the question...what is a gateway?
