Submitting to Apple... at what size ?

Post by Dixie » Thu Aug 01, 2013 7:08 pm

To those of you who have submitted iPad apps to Apple recently built with liveCode...

What size did you build them at 1024 x 768... or 2048 x 1536 ?
Has ayone suffered a rejection from submitting their iPad app to Apple at 1024 x 768 ?

I would also like to hear what sizes people have been building their iPhone apps at as well...:-)

Hi Dixie,

I just got an iPad App approved last night that I built with a 1024x768 resolution. So it seems like Apple won't reject based on screen resolution. The iPod apps I've submitted have been at 480x320 resolution. I know the new iPhone 5 has a weird screen ratio - 1136x640 (ratio 1.775:1) - but I haven't tried to create anything specific for that device.

Hope that helps,
Jacob

Apps are easier to develop for the two iPad variants compared to the three sizes needed for iPhone. You are OK to create an App for the 1024 x 768 screen but you need to include the two icon sizes (72 x 72 and 144 x 144) as well as two splash screens (1024 x 768 and 2048 x 1536). The iPad with retina screens (generation 3 and 4) will run an App at 1024 x 768 with no problem, except that there is some noticeable jagged edges. Best to avoid graphics and lines with 1-pixel in particular. The alternative is to create the App to cater for both screen sizes. If your App contains a lot of images then you can quickly increase the size of the App and Apple imposes strict limits nowadays!

The iPad mini is 1024 x 768 so there are problems at all. In fact part of the appeal at the Apple launch was the fact it could run existing iPad Apps.

We have never had an iPad App rejected at 1024 x 768.

Jacob... Dave...

Thanks for your input... after reading your comments, I decided to submit my iPad app at 1024 x 768 and to keep it company the iPhone app at 320 x 480 (it does however scale up to 320 x 536 for the iPhone 5)... both came through the review process and are now in the iTunes store... So, it would seem that Apple are not being as 'hard assed' about everything having to be done at 'retina' size, as it were... that is what I was a little worried about as I hadn't submitted an app for a while...
