Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
Hello,
Is it possible to test and deploy iOS apps by running a Mac OX inside a Virtual Box on Windows?
(I don't own a Mac computer)

Re: Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
I'm not 100% certain on the virtual machine question, but http://www.macincloud.com/ offers virtual mac in the cloud, and they already have livecode and the iOS SDK/Xcode installed.

Re: Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
Thanks Sefro,
I had a look at their service, but anything in the cloud is out of question for me since my mobile internet connection is super slow.
Their recommendations are:
Network speed test (Upload speed >1Mbps against London, UK or Los Angeles, USA servers)
Network latency test (<150ms against the same London, UK or Los Angeles, USA servers)
and my speed test shows:
Download Speed: 1945 kbps (243.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 358 kbps (44.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 212 ms
So the only way would be to use VirtualBox if it's possible

Re: Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
What is the opinion of the Virtual Box MANUAL about this?

Re: Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
Hi Klaus,
The manual agrees to install various Mac OS
The question is whether the Apple people (the administrators of the iOS Developer's account etc) agree with it. That's why I asked if anybody has already any experience testing the apps and submitting them to iTunes it this way.

Re: Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
So I stumbled on the answer on my original question: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic ... 22&t=31104
It says:
"Due to license restrictions the new Mac OS X as Guest feature is only available to users with Apple/Mac hardware, and only for "Mac OS X Server" installations as a guest OS. Any other combination is unsupported and will therefore not work. Any post that talks about a different combination will be removed without warning. Any discussions of ways to get around the Apple SLA will also be removed.
...
At this time VirtualBox is not officially supporting the Mac OS X Lion operating system as a virtual guest and there is no time-line when it will be officially supported. According to the released SLA from Mac you should be able to install Lion but the same restrictions apply as with Snow Leopard including Mac hardware, Mac OS only..."
It's pity...

Re: Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
Yes, the OS X EULA requires that the software be run only on "Apple branded computers".
Like the forums for VirtualBox, Ubuntu, and many others, the Guidelines for these LiveCode forums prohibit discussion of things like attempts to bypass copyright restrictions on software:
http://forums.livecode.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18885
Since it's clear Keram wasn't aware of this EULA restriction at the time this thread was started, in my view this discussion does not violate the Forum Guidelines. On the contrary, this thread may be useful for others who may be unfamiliar with Apple's EULA terms, and as such I feel it's a good contribution to the community. Thanks for posting this question, Keram.
So no moderation action has been taken in this thread thus far, but I would like to ask that the members here please continue to respect the Guidelines, and going forward refrain from adding even well-intentioned post that include links to "hackintosh" sites or other information that may assist the goal of circumventing Apple's copyright restrictions. Any such posts will be removed per the Guidelines linked to above.
All that said, I've found that used or discontinued Macs make an affordable option for legally running OS X.

Of course, and that's what I've been searching for during the last hour or so, looking on various websites for used Macs in good shape.FourthWorld wrote:I've found that used or discontinued Macs make an affordable option for legally running OS X.

I had always assumed that it was possible and legal to run OSX in a VM or on a hackintosh as long as you owned a copy of OSX. My brain just exploded.FourthWorld wrote:Yes, the OS X EULA requires that the software be run only on "Apple branded computers".

Re: Mac OX running inside a Virtual Box on Windows
My understanding is that copies of OS X can be run in VMs if the VM is running on a Mac. That may be old info, however, so as with any copyright question it's best to check with the copyright owner.sefrojones wrote:I had always assumed that it was possible and legal to run OSX in a VM or on a hackintosh as long as you owned a copy of OSX.
