Sure, around 25% in the current Top 100 Apps are build with Xamarin. Why? Because it's easier to build for multiple plattforms and you can design your screen for multiple-resolutions without(!!!) geometric deformations much much faster without special code or something like that, which is needed in LiveCode.
I know some of the DevTeams behind the Top 100 Apps and the most use Xamarin and some uses the new Swift, which would be my choice after LiveCode.
I'm very dissapointed and I'm not alone. I talked to a lot of people who think the same about RunRev and LiveCode development in the last month/years. It's a shame what RunRev sell as auto-scale and how people get messed around with "The Course". RunRev shows Apple Apps and rebuild them step by step, as far as good to learn LiveCode, BUT no one talks about the real problems, the things that help build A++ (btw: This is an international designation for high-quality, not only for Apps..) which are not possible in LiveCode without more expense as in every other language.
What kind of help is a programming-language, which is easy to use in syntax, but you need so much more time to build a beautiful nativ-looking App for every screen-resolution?
Please do not take it amiss, but I've never seen an App, which is build in LiveCode, which is not ugly - never. They all looks like they would build by lil childs or persons, who never heard about design.
But it's not why the people, who build this Apps, don't want to build better Apps - they just can't in LiveCode and that's the point.
I remember Kickstarter.. nativ iOS/Android-look, (working) auto-scale (w/o geometric deformation), better/new IDE, bla bla... and what we get? Yes, LiveCode 6 with a new name called "7", a half-hearted auto-scale, no nativ-look, no modern/better-IDE, ...
LiveCode 8 should be better? No, I don't think so. Yes, maybe you'll be able to use the SDK directly within LiveCode, but what does this mean? Yes, WE have to build everything like native-look, working geometric-auto-scale.. BAD!
Yes, LiveCode is nice for kids and for niches and co, but for real business? No, it's too late RunRev.. Mobile-App-Business startet (again) in 2008 - it is 2015 now and LiveCode missed the point (far).
Again for all who really want to get the chance for an upcoming good looking App:
Don't spend more time and money for something that will never happens. The time you wait for a better LiveCode or to design your App, to get a nativ look and a working design for every possible screen-size - stop it & forget it.
Invest a few weeks of time with good video-training and/or some books, decide what platforms you really need and come on with Swift (
http://developer.apple.com/swift), which is free(!) or Xamarin (
http://xamarin.com) which gives you all platforms and more features for the same price like LiveCode.
It's your choice - have a nice day
