Standalone app now 80mb instead of 20mb after upgrading

Hi.

I have a couple of questions: I'll post the other in a separate thread. I hope someone can help.

Firstly, can anyone explain why, after upgrading to 7.0.4 the standalone app is now 4 times the size it used to be (now 80mb)? When I last published (using 6.6.2 i think) it was around 20mb. Nothing significant has changed. Any insight really appreciated.

Kind regards, Paul

I believe this has been addressed in v7.0.5.

Hi Paul,
You should try 6.7.5 rc 3 (a stable release will come out tomorrow).
With 7 you get all the unicode stuff which adds a lot to a standalone, if you don't need unicode then use a 6.x version.
Now from 20 to 80 mb seems like way more then I've heard of before, so not exactly sure what else is going on.

Thanks for your advice. I updated to 7.0.5 and it has now effectively halved the size to around 40mb. I understand that as Livecode develops builds will get larger. I am under pressure to get this app out so don't have time to roll back to 6.x to remove unicode etc. I'd need to download and install and link a previous Xcode build and dammit this thing needs to go to Apple.

Thanks again!

@GSA_DC: Since 6.6.2 Apple has required that iOS apps are universal binaries for both ARMv7 and ARM64 builds - at 6.6.2, I believe it would have just been an ARMv6 build. Thus, you'd expect the size of your app to at least double when moving between 6.6.2 and 6.7.5 / 7.0.5.
