App rejected because of Letterbox - Now what?

Post by joel.epsteinBUS31vi » Sat Feb 06, 2016 4:21 pm

Hi all -

I woke this morning and found a rather disappointing email from Apple. They rejected my latest app. I've pasted the reason below:

------------------------
From Apple
2.10 - iPhone Apps must also run on iPad without modification, at iPhone resolution, and at 2X iPhone 3GS resolution
2.10 Details
We noticed that your app did not run at iPhone resolution when reviewed on iPad running iOS 9.2.1, which is a violation of the App Store Review Guidelines.

Specifically, the app is letterboxed on the right and left sides.
--------------------------

What's up with this? I've been using LiveCode's fullscreen mode set to letterbox for many of my apps for some time now and never had a problem getting them approved.

Is this guideline new, or have I just been lucky that reviewers haven't caught the issue in my earlier apps?

Regardless, I'm now stuck trying to figure out next steps.

I suppose I could release two different versions of the app, one for iPhone and one restructured for iPad. But I don't relish that thought.

I'd be grateful for any feedback, ideas, or potential solutions.

Thanks so much.

Joel

Hi all -

Sorry to be so persistent, but I'd be quite grateful if anyone could give me some insight into this issue.

I've been poking around, but don't see an easy solution. I'm hoping that maybe someone might be able to help.

Thank you very much.

Joel

Did Apple send you any screenshot of what they are experiencing? This will help narrow down if there is an issue with the fullscreenmode or not.

Is you are an iPhone/iPod only app or does it support iPhone/iPod/iPad? (build for option of iOS standalone settings)

Kind Regards,

Hi Neil -

I appreciate you getting back to me.

In standalone settings, the app is set to build for both iPhone and iPad.

Apple did send a screenshot. I've attached it to this post.

The confusing thing to me is that I've used these same settings for my previous apps with no problem.

I'd be grateful if you could give me any clue what the problem might be.

Thanks.

The
"2.10 - iPhone Apps must also run on iPad without modification, at iPhone resolution, and at 2X iPhone 3GS resolution"
error sounds like it looking for your app to run on iPad in compatibility mode (2x & 1x)

https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/30815

The image in the following screenshot shows this mode on an iPad (little 2x icon)

With that being said, I would ask for more information from Apple as your app has been accepted multiple times before. You may be able to start an appeal based on this.

Thanks, Neil. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. I'll follow up with Apple and see what happens...
