iPhone Triggers

Can LiveCode "know" when things like a text message is received, or the phone rings, or an alarm goes off?

No! There's no API on the phone that let your code be trigged by phone calls, alarms, SMS etc. The only thing I'm aware of is a push notification that is not supported by Livecode yet as far as I know.
