Overcoming Application Loader Woes

Colleagues
This post is about an issue we discovered and resolved with Application Loader 1.4.1 at the final stage of uploading an App to the Store (same problem whether this was an iOS App or a Mac OSX App process).
You may recognise the scenario - the App is ready, has been extensively tested, the pre-flight checks and iTunes Connect requirements are all completed. You fire up and progress through Application Loader steps and the upload starts and seems to go along fine for a few seconds and then grinds to a halt, displaying the following message: com.apple.transporter.util.StreamUtil.readBytes(Ljava/io/InputStrea,;)[B
I am sure you will agree this is a really unhelpful and incomprehensible message from Application Loader!!!
In our experience submitting iTunes Connect support requests over several days has still not resolved the problem which, it appears, a known bug in some copies of Application Loader 1.4.1 in circulation.
Our search on the Internet using "Application Loader Error IOS Upload" revealed that others had encountered the same problem and suggested a range of measures on the Stackoverflow website to overcome this, including reverting to previous versions of Xcode etc.
We confirmed that the issue originated within the copy of Application Loader, downloaded as part of the Xcode 4.0.2 package. We downloaded another copy of Application Loader (confusingly also listed as version 1.4.1) and this worked seamlessly.
Why there are different copies of Application Loader 1.4.1 is a mystery but the issue that frustrated our work flow for several days has now been resolved. You might have thought there would be some information about this issue posted on the Development Centres. We still await advice from the iTunes support team so it will be interesting to see if they resolve this along the same lines.
We trust this is helpful to other colleagues who may also stray into the same issue.
PS We cannot include the links to other websites as we have not (yet?) been granted those permissions.
