Problems Today

Post by timtheriot » Fri Jan 23, 2015 10:46 pm

First, let me apologize in advance if I sound like a complete idiot. I purchased the Indy package and have been slowly getting used to everything. Today I tried to open Livecode and I get a message that my Indy license has been revoked by me. Now I keep getting emails saying that I have revoked my own Indy license. Am I missing something, or is it a glitch in the system?

Secondly, I'm really not sure what is included in the Indy license. Can I watch the Academy short videos or do I have to pay extra for them? I thought they were included in the membership but I may be mistaken. Anyway, I don't have a way to go to the Academy page and click on a video to watch without having to pay $50 US for it. I guess what I'm really getting at is, after logging in I'm not sure what is and isn't available to me and I'd like to know how to navigate the areas for newbys. Thanks.

Hi tkt40,
Welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure how one revokes their own license so I think it best you contact:
support@runrev.com
They are very helpful.

Till you get it sorted you can download a community version from here;
http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/
To play around with.

Now unless it said specifically that Academies were included you will have to pay extra for them. If they were included you have to go to the store and login to view the Academies in you account.

Is the LiveCode membership separate from the software? What I mean is, when I bought the LiveCode Commercial Indy, I thought that the membership was included. But, after looking around I've come to the conclusion that it isn't included and that you have to pay separately for the membership. I think that you should make it more clear that if you want to fully participate you need to also purchase a membership. Actually, I think a membership should be included if you buy the software. Thanks for listening.

Hi tkt40,
Yep, I hear what you are saying (can you tell I'm Californian??)
But the Membership thing is kind of a misleading, most if not all of the LiveCode greats (some of them are listed at the top of this page) are not part of that Membership. They are members because they are in this forum and/or the User List.
...if you want to fully participate you need to also purchase a membership
Note your wording there, the Academies are a learning resource plus a couple of other things. You are participating because you are here.
Yeah, it should have been called something like Academies Plus (hmmm... A+).

The thing is, anything that is in those Academies can be answered here, but you can't ask "How do I make a game?" you can ask "My game mostly works except how do I get this part..."

Thanks for the reply. I understand now. The main problem I'm having now is that even though I'm following along and doing everything exactly like the hour of code video, my "test" button on the far right of the menu bar stays grayed out. What do I need to do to be able to use the testing programs?

I think you should start another thread now in the Beginners forum.
But a bit more advice, not everybody has access to "the hour of code" (or do I?) so many will be kind of blind to what you are working on. My first silly question being is this a mobile app you are working on? If it is, have you installed the SDK stuff for the platform you are trying to test on?
