My love for the Project Browser

Post by Mag » Thu Jun 20, 2013 5:01 pm

With this post I want to express my love for the Project Browser. It has completely changed the way I work with LiveCode. If it achieves the necessary stability will be one of the best additions I've seen since I started using this wonderful development environment.

Thanks to all the staff at RunRev!

I'll second that. It's the most useful thing I've found (so far) in v6.x.

I haven't used it yet as I seem to have managed perfectly well without the thing for the last 12 years.

Some of those icons need to be hacked/changed; especially the 'eye' one, as it is very hard to see.

About the eye icon I think that the over icon and the visible icon are too similar giving the false sense that when you clicked to make the control visible nothing happened.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the 'over icons'; so I've posted a picture of the icons in the Project Browser, and I would be most grateful if you could let me know which ones you are talking about.

Hi Richmond, sorry, I meant "hover" state. Here is an image of what I mean, you can see that when you are over an icon with the mouse, it appears similar to the same icon wen the object has visible state. Yes, I know they are non equal, but they are similar enough to require that mental effort more than you'd like when you're focused on something else.

I don't have an awful lot fo trouble distinguishing the grey from the blue. But I do think
the icons lack contrast with the background.

Naturally I'm not saying that it is not possible to distinguish the dark gray from the blue, I only say that may could be an element of confusion have a button with two status icons that have a color with similar contrast.

Moreover, I add that I don't think it is necessary to have hover state icons in this type of interface elements.

But these are only insignificant details compared to the utility of the Project Browser!

Would be great also if the Project Browser in the future versions of LC could remember it's size and position more accurately.

PS
The one of the windows that do not take size and position, it is a problem of the whole IDE. For example the palette Tools is lowered always a few pixels, the Message Box assumes a height apparently arbitrary and so on... I hope that the team will one day have a look, but they are minor things and certainly not urgent.
