Do consumers prefer one large app that does a lot of things, possibly with the ability to unlock more... or a bunch of smaller apps that are more specialized.

The only example I came up with off the top of my head was Office suites. Say you have an iPad user, would that user more likely purchase an all in office app that could handle spreadsheets, word processing and presentations? Or would they prefer to have three separate apps for each?

That IS Off-Topic, and I really don't know how you are going to find that out on this Forum.

Might be better to see if there is any market-research available on the internet.

I'll throw a vote in.
Using Office as the example I'd go with individual apps.
I've never used Excel on my iPad but Word yes. Now if they all use a common core code that was large then I'd say "save my disk space, give them all to me!"

Single apps.

There is a strong trend in China for one stop shop for many things. The app is like going to the mall. If the content is all related by a theme, I think many users would prefer accessing it without having to switch to 10 different apps at least that is what my current focus group of about 20 users is telling me. OTOH app size can become an issue if you it all to be available when the user is offline. In my case I will have to think not about " individual app," but more about age groups ( possibly )

I would deliver the configuration that best serves the task the app addresses.
