If you're feeling "particularly kinky" you can download
OPENstep here:
https://winworldpc.com/product/nextstep/4x
...then try and find a functioning machine it will work on . . .
"This OS offered many unique things, in addition to the
unique hardware it originally ran on."

Mind you, how you'll manage to make
LiveCode standalones that
will run on the thing is another question all together.
I've been BAD for sometime now:
First of all Richmond, thank you SO much for that link! It took less than 20 seconds of searching in case anyone else wants to look at the last bit of the NeXT/OpenStep original history to find the way to install it
here.
As you can see, anyone with Virtual box (or probably any decent vm) should have no issues getting it up and running at least in all its black and white glory. Color may require a bit more pain
I would also add that the various *Step distros out there, gnuStep, afterStep, WindowMaker that followed (well, gnuStep
preceded, actually) are very easy to get going on a vm without requiring the patches NeXT and OpenStep need (2k and vesa). But, if your looking for that gotta have it original builder, it does work just fine as is.
Also, apparently there was an attempt to make it "cross platform" at the time, there is an 'OSE' part to GORM that would port an app to windows. Just amazing trip down memory lane.

Heh, here is something I miss from IDEs like Delphi and Rb (although it wasn't done as well there), and that is just simple layout guidelines. Finding them in GORM was a bit of a surprise for me.

It looks a bit like the old Amiga

I never had one of those, or even saw one when they were out

My parents had gotten one of the Atari 800 models that were around at that time, and later a Tandy heh. The only thing all 3 had in common is that, of course, they (and many others) all went by the bye.
I still remember first seeing those guidelines when they showed up in Delphi though.

Bernd has a nice plugin for guides. It may be in RevOnline.

I think I have seen something like that, thank you for reminding me Richard!
