About 2 weeks ago my wife and I had a weekend at a hotel in the mountains here in Bulgaria.
I spent some time fooling around with the television in the room which had Android installed, although I could not
manage to use the Google Play thing to install any other software.

Today, while browsing through one of those crappy 'newpapers' that come from supermarkets I came
across a load of new televisions with Tizen OS installed on them. I had never come across Tizen OS before, so looked it up . . .

And found that it is 'another' "Linux-based mobile operating system backed by the Linux Foundation but developed and used
primarily by Samsung Electronics" (Whacky-pedia).

Now, as anyone who has tried knows, running off a standalone for Android from LiveCode is not at all as straight forward
as running off a 'simple' Linux standalone. I wondered . . .

1. Err . . . standalones for Tizen OS.

2. Emulators to run Tizen OS.

Don't get me wrong: I have no aim to target all those people who have an uncontrollable urge to prepare fancy Sanskrit texts
on their Tizen OS televisions . . .

But, I did wonder.

Here in Happy Bulgaria, TVs with Tizen OS have just appeared on the market.

You wouldn't get me buying one of those in a month of Sundays: but it would still
be useful to know if one could deploy LiveCode standalones to that platform.

Samsung has many types of devices, and I've already deployed to a Samsung Android phone.
I'm sure Samsung has tight control over the apps that can be deployed to their "smart" televisions, as they'd need to be able to tap into the data stream to monetize the results. That's why smart tvs cost less than dumb ones - the manufacturers lose money if they can't control what you receive.

There does seem to be a signal difference between Android and Tizen TVs and a Roku device:

a Roku device only seems to provide channels to access external data, while on both Android and Tizen one can deploy apps.

Whichever way one cuts things, I do believe the ability to produce LiveCode standalones for these platforms would be a plus.

Roku has also recently released updated developer guidelines that severely cut back on what apps can do. Nothing that functions like a web browser, etc. I got notification of the new terms and decided I was no longer that interested.

You're confusing me with someone who has skill and competence!

Better than confusing you with, say, *ME*, a hopeless generic hack, eh

All I really remember was that someone (and I believe it was one of you two) kept popping in with threads about doing xyz to a tv.

Of course, it is possible I dreamed the whole thing up too, finding out is half the fun
