HyperCard in the World

Post by jtangen » Wed Sep 04, 2024 10:21 am

Hey everyone,

Check out this incredible video about "HyperCard in the World", a project by Bret Victor. It's well worth a watch!

https://youtu.be/uI7J3II59lc

Victor's taken the spirit of HyperCard and brought it into the physical world. For those who don't remember, HyperCard was this revolutionary Mac app back in the 80s and 90s that let regular folks create interactive stuff without needing to be coders. It's pretty much LiveCode's great-grandparent—same idea, just a few generations back.

Bret led the team at Apple that created up the earliest UI concepts for the iPad. He's regarded as one of the greatest user interface design minds in the world today.

Dynamicland (which just launched today), is like HyperCard on steroids—the whole room becomes a computer. You're not just clicking a mouse, you're moving actual objects around and the code's right there on bits of paper you can scribble on. It's pretty wild.

They've set up shop as a non-profit lab in Oakland. The idea is to break down the walls between our digital and physical worlds, making computing a more collaborative, hands-on experience.

Cheers,
Jason

Hi Jason,

That is an very intriguing video. A unexpected new paradigm. I watched the whole thing (also 40 minutes long) it was worth it.
Thank you for making me aware of this.

Kind regards
Bernd
