A 4.6 will definitely get your attention:

Anything fall off your shelves?

Nope.

Just one of those "Hey! What thu?" moments.
And again about 6:30.

Both my wife and daughter called out.
I could only yell back "if it lasts a count of 3 then take cover".

They were just frozed not knowing what to do.

90 km from me in Glen Iris.
Peeps in the epicentre had to have had quite a shock.
Hope all is well there.

Seems there's nothing in either the Sidney Morning Herald or The Age about the quake this morning. That means it's either too small to report, or so devastating that no reports can come out.

Hopefully just the former.

This is a good reminder for all of us who live in earthquake-prone areas to maintain a supply of food and water in the event of an emergency. Here in shake-n-bake Los Angeles, we keep about a week's worth on hand, rotating our stock each time we go to the market. Thankfully we've never needed to rely on it, but we sleep better at night knowing it's there.

Good advice.

We learnt that in Christchurch. We've had over 20 earthquakes 5.0+ since the 7.1 last September.
If they are more than 10 miles away we can hear them coming...

cheers

Paul

Paul, I just read about the 7.6 off the coast of north island - you folks okay down there?

Hi Richard,
Should be ok here as wave is expected to be less than 1 meter. Luckily most areas of this country are not close to sea level, but after the Japanese Tsunami people are more aware of them now.

cheers
Paul
