mobilePickPhoto "camera" - stable or unstable?

Been testing with last few versions of community LiveCode (currently testing with 6.1.1rc2).

Is anybody using mobilePickPhoto "camera" with any decent amount of frequency? I have several test devices where periodically the app crashes returning the photo. Periodically, after a photo is taken, and "save" is tapped (or the checkmark, depending on the version of android and UI skin), the screen will go black for a second, and the app crashes. As far as I can tell, when this happens, the app never returns from mobilePickPhoto "camera".

I've put a "wait for 100 milliseconds with messages" and then start a mobileBusyIndicator. When mobilePickPhoto crashes, one never sees the mobileBusyIndicator, indicating that the crash occurs in mobilePickPhoto "camera" in returning the image.

Can anybody that uses mobilePickPhoto "camera" comment one way or another on whether this periodically happens?

I am also having this problem, but it seems to occur only on specific Android versions. I'm using LC 6.1. mobilePickPhoto works every time on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (Android 4.1), but almost never works on my Droid Charge (Android 2.3). I would guess that it is a bug for specific Android versions, but I'm not sure. Maybe we should email the RunRev guys? They would probably have a better idea of what is actually going on.

I wish it were "all or none" as it probably would be easier for RR to fix, but in my tests it has been intermittent. Testing on a Nexus S 4.1.2, it is difficult to get it to fail. On a Galaxy S2 running 4.1.3, the failure rate seems to be 1 out of 30-50 (although, sometimes it starts to fail time after time, then won't fail again for 50 attempts!). On a Motorola droid x2 running 2.3.5, the failure rate is much higher...maybe 1 out of 10.....

I almost WISH it would fail consistently on the 2.3.5 device, as that would give RR easier diagnosis....

I have filed a (heart-felt) bug report on this. I don't usually file bug reports for which I cannot supply a reproducible recipe, but this bug is too insidious and debilitating to apps that rely on mobilePickPhoto to be stable.

I just checked my bug report and RR is asking for a sample stack. I'm reluctant to send them mine as it contains patent pending algorithms....maybe i'll strip them out. Can you supply anything to them that fails consistently on your 2.3 device? The bug is here http://quality.runrev.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11118

No problem, I can definitely submit a stack to them. I'll start working on that now and then test it for a while before submitting it. I'll post back here once I've submitted my stack.
I really enjoyed the wording of your bug report; I believe you said exactly what needed to be said about the unreliability and unpredictability of mobilePickPhoto. Thanks a lot for submitting the bug, and I'll try to get a stack up there as soon as I can.
