Restarting local notifications after a device restart

Hi,
Im just finishing an app that uses local notifications.
On iOS after the phone is rebooted the notifications continue as they are handled by the system, but on Android when I reboot all notifications stop until I open and then close the app again.
Is there a way to get the notifications to restart automatically after the reboot of the device?
Ive tried it on a couple of phones, a Kindle Fire and Sony Tablet and all so the same, so I'm pretty sure this is just how it currently works on Android.
