Toolbar and KDE

Re: Toolbar and KDE
I understand the KDE developers think "Activities" is a great feature but it seems to be mostly ignored by common users. It doesn't offer a whole lot of advantages over using plain old virtual desktops as far as my usage goes.

Re: Toolbar and KDE
Quite.developers think

1. Sometimes I wonder if developers think, or just do work based on their gut feelings.
2. I've been "thinking" quite a lot for a long time about my Devawriter Pro: my main feedback and beta testing brigade
have let me know that they have been thinking differently . . . spending a "dirty weekend" (well, more like a month) lining
up my "thinking" with end-users' expectations.
3. Wondering after messing around with KDE for some time now why people seem so quick to run down XFCE.
4. Oddly enough, after the mess where the Toolbar stack was playing hide-and-seek with me for a bit, things have now largely
settled down and I was able to do a 5 hour development "blast" without any real hiccups.
5. "developers think" makes me suspect that the more settled developers in the Open Source world (c.f. XFCE, KDE) are
becoming as smug and as "one size fits all" as our dear friends Apple and Microsoft (and let's not go into the b*tchy session
I have just had over on the Haiku development forums).
Re: Toolbar and KDE
I don't hang out much in the web forum, so I'm coming a bit late to the party, but...
I made a change in the way the backdrop is refreshed for LC 9.5 to enable it to work properly on linux: to wit, refreshing the stacks after placing the backdrop rather than before. This *shouldn't* have had any repercussions in the visible stack order or placement, but if you're seeing differences in the behavior of LC9.5 and LC9.05 (or any other version) with respect to the background, maybe lnxdcs.cpp is a good place to start looking.

Re: Toolbar and KDE
At the moment LC 9.5 is behaving itself reasonably well with KDE: the
only slight snag is the Toolbar stack which inconsistently becomes invisible
when the stack I am working on is in focus.
BUT I NEVER use the backdrop as my desktop tends not to be cluttered with
50 million icons, widgets, or other distractions
(i.e. no desktop pictures of cats in 'erotic' poses).

Re: Toolbar and KDE
Good to know.
I mostly don't use the backdrop based on habits of years of it not working, so I never think about it.
