Help with something

Hello all,
I have been going through the tutorials for developing server apps, and I want to make an application that will scan in barcodes on the phone and then put that into an app running on the PC/Web etc .. Does anyone know how I could do someting like that or have something I can have a look at

you could use this external: http://mergext.com/home/mergzxing/
and then POST the data to a CGI on your server.

Yes I think that would help, bit costly though .. was hoping for something I could test for free and I dont see a way to test this out
