2 MobGui or Not 2 MobGui... that is the question!

Post by roddy » Wed Apr 23, 2014 3:22 pm

Hello,

In defense of us newbies... I'm finding it challenging to know when and how to use LC scripts to work with/enhance features I'm trying to use with MobGui. For instance, trying to get a browser or scroller to work: MobGui lets you drop it on the card "pre-built" but only to find that you do still need to use mobileControl commands in many situations which just complicates it further (for us newbies) because of the somewhat esoteric behaviors in the plug-in... I guess my point(s)/question(s) are: Are we doing ourselves a disservice by trying to take a MobGui shortcut? Are we increasing our learning curve or shortening it? Are the LC plug-ins seamless enough for beginners? Or should they be recommended for intermediate to advanced users as time savers? It's probably my inexperience but it doesn't seem as seamless as it should be. I'm about 40 hours into an app and I'm thinking maybe I should start from scratch without any plug-ins... <sigh>

I am going to start off by saying that 'mobGUI' by John Craig is a great piece of work. ...

it really works well for you if you wish to 'whip up' a mobile layout quickly. However, I for one do not use 'mobGUI', but build buttons, navbars, tab bars, scrollers and browsers in the mobile environment by script alone... I guess that it is down to 'horses for courses'...In the long run, I am minded that you are better off learning to build these mobile objects yourself to have a better understanding of what is happening...

that is my take on it anyway, there will be others that have a different view

Hi roddy,
MobGui is a fantastic tool, if you are in for the long game then you will learn liveCode anyways.
I'm thinking maybe I should start from scratch without any plug-ins
Just try the lesson;
http://lessons.runrev.com/s/lessons/m/4 ... er-control
After that you will have most of the knowledge used to make the MobGui drag 'n drop browser.

Now the MobGui custom slider??? It's not in the lessons (it's not the Custom Controls lesson), just a very ingenious/creative person behind that.
