To play the devil's advocate - what is wrong with just giving them the answer and letting them move on? This is a point of last resort for many of them. By the time they post here, they are tired and frustrated. It is initially difficult posting here for new people, because they do not want to appear dumb by posting a stupid question. They also may not know how to word their question without being misunderstood or ridiculed.
If they are really interested in learning the language and not just solving a current problem, they will come back with more follow-on questions. It may be in the small successes that they learn to love coding and appreciate LiveCode more than anything else we do.
Also, the more different solutions posted serve to teach them that there is more than one way to accomplish their goal. They will also be more apt to check in the forums more often to learn and see other tidbits of code and various coding techniques. They will come to understand different way of thinking.
The bottom line is do not change anything anyone is doing. It is the diversity of answers, viewpoints and approaches that make this forum so valuable and entertaining. The more people that participate, the richer we all will be. Just keep it balanced,
...interesting discussion, thanks
