Hello everyone. I'm from Bilbao, in Spain. I do not speak very good English, but with the help of Google I hope to make myself understood.

My life with the “on MouseUp” Universe:

80's: Hypercard
90's: SuperCard, Metacard & OMO (Oracle Media Objects)
2000… Macromedia Director (& Adobe Director)
2014: My old 27” Mac dies… Then I buy a new iMac but... with Mavericks, Director does not work. Panic!!!.

One month ago I discover that Supercard is still alive… Well, It is not exactly what I was looking for but that's something. I download the trial version and rescued my old Supercard’s manual and I start to work with it…

But I keep searching and suddenly, a couple of weeks ago (in Wikipedia I think), I hear about LiveCode. I go to the web and…

Yeah… Fantástico, perfecto, maravilloso!!!.

Welcome to the forum.

Livecode is everything HC wanted to be, and could have been.

You already know it.

There will be a few changes to get used to, for example, the existence of groups and the loss of the background and menu objects, though you will find that these are "connected". To give you another example, I used (and still use) many xcmd's and xfcn's to make HC do what I need; LC has all of that built in.

Write back with all your thoughts and questions.

You're right, the issue of backgrounds was one of the first things that struck me, but actually I think that groups can fulfill its function in a very intelligent way.

I want to work in several areas but primarily on visual products for television. In the 90s I worked for some TVs stations and I did some entertainment applications (Games, etc) with SuperCard and some others applications to synchronize karaoke texts with Macromedia Director.


I am now about to retire and i want go back to spend a lot of hours with the exciting and fun world of programming.

Espero que esta nueva herramienta me dé muchas satisfacciones y seguiré tu consejo enfocándome en lo que realmente funciona bien. Ya he encontrado algún pequeño problema y alguna que otra carencia pero creo las ventajas son mucho más importantes. Es una suerte haber encontrado Live Code. Lástima no haberlo hecho antes.

I hope this new tool will give me many satisfactions and I’ll follow your advice focusing on what really works well. I have found some small problem and the occasional lack but I think the benefits are much more important. It is fortunate to have found Live Code. A pity not having done it before.
