A Nicer Beep

Post by RossG » Sun May 22, 2016 5:20 pm

The beep function can't produce the kind of
sound I want.

Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a sound
file that will produce a melodious beep when a key
is pressed?

There are thousands of free sound files online. Do a search for "free sounds" and start wading through them.

It's the "wading through them" that I was trying to
avoid. Even "wading through" those on my computer
is a pain.

You might try to 'roll your own'. There's a shareware music app, Melody Assistant (google for it), which is free for the downloading; the makers hope you'll like MA so much you choose to pay them—which you should, because MA is pretty good. Among MA's many features, it lets you play your music with a variety of different voices; it can save your music as .AIF, .MP3, .WAV, or .OGG files; and it also lets you apply various sound effects/filters to your music. It's not as easy as "download this MP3", of course, but it does have the advantage that the sound you end up with will be what you want, and not what you settled for amongst a random group of candidate sounds.

Thanks for the tip Cubist.

For reasons unknown my brother was given all the musical
talent but that must have been inherited from pre-Grandparent
ancestors unless our paternal Grandfather playing tuba in the local
brass band counts.

There's also

which produces the most melodious notes of any composing programme
I've seem. But they're both beyond me.

It's not fair.
