Lost Dictionary

Post by Bantymom » Tue Sep 21, 2010 3:55 am

When I opened revMedia tonight, it seems to be slightly corrupted. The dictionary is not working as it was before. Clicking on it once produces nothing at all, clicking on it again opens the window with the list on the left, but no items in the large box to the right. Neither will it accept anything in the search window. Is there any help or are there any suggestions out that?

Thank you,

I'm not sure if you have a sandbox application but if you do, you can try to re-install it under a sandbox, then from there, just re-copy the Documentation folder from the sandbox to your real revMedia copy.

Thank you for the information, but I don't think I have that, since I"m not sure what it is. I have one copy of revMedia.

Hmm... Does the Dictionary issue happen always? Or does it only happen from time to time? I've had to deal with that before but it eventually fixed itself... Common causes of this might be slow computers or slow loading time for revolution.

EDIT:
Oops, I meant LiveCode.. Sorry, I just got used to rev xP

Up until this evening, it was working as usual, but since then it has been consistent in behaving as I described. :( I have a MacBookPro that runs pretty fast. The Stack itself is running normally and quickly.

Hmm well if you haven't done any IDE modifications or custom added / modified IDE scripts, won't it be best to just re-install it? I'm not that familiar with the Mac family so to be on the safe side, make a backup before re-installing...

I had done that. At first I thought that wasn't going to work, but eventually it has. Thank you for your patience. But now I am rather concerned. Will revMedia no longer exist?

Thank you very much for your help tonight.

Hmm I can't answer that question because only the team or a staff from RunRev could help you with that inquiry... : (

Hi,

RevMedia no longer exists. If you have a license for RevMedia, you will be able to continue to use it. There is no longer a free version available. From now on, schools and universities have to pay per seat. I hope you kept as many RevMedia licenses as computers in your classroom and didn't give those licenses away to your students, because you can continue to use the licenses you already have.

Best,

Mark

oh no! This is worse than depressing. I only just discovered revMedia and now this is the end? I teach at an elementary school in an underfunded district. I was dreaming that I might be able to get one copy of Twist-a-Word for one computer in my room, even though that was a longshot. Pay per seat? (per computer?) I am still short 4 Math books, 7 Reading Anthologies, 1 Science book, and 12 Social Studies books, as is every other 2nd-grade teacher. The children have to share everything. The other grades are missing books in different quantities as well, so there is no way the school or the district would get the new one for me. And I won't be able to get it for myself, let alone for the computers in my room. With the cuts by the state, I am already buying pencils, paper, and folders for my students. So, when I finish this, my first project, I won't even be able to play it on the two computers in my classroom. I was ecstatic when I discovered I could write for my classroom again, and now this. This is more depressing than you can know.

Bantymom,
there is still hope...
As I understand you want to use your stacks like Hypercard stacks and not a self-contained standalone. So to run your stacks developed with RevMedia have a look at:
http://www.sonsothunder.com/devres/revo ... Runner.htm
maybe that would work out for you.

Brnard,
Thank you! I seen that but in my sleepy panic I was afraid that I would still need revMedia as well, but I see that it works just fine on it's own and I am very very happy with it. I am dancing with joy and back to working on my humble project.

Bantymom,

Runrev, the company, apparently has a scolarship program for schools that can not afford livecode. I don't know the details but have a look at this statement from Kevin Miller, the CEO of Runrev:
http://runtime-revolution.278305.n4.nab ... l#a2551886

So if everything fails you could ask for that program. But from what you have in mind you probably would not need a programming environment, just a "stackrunner".
regards
Bernd
