Video format and file path?

Post by peter.s » Mon Nov 01, 2010 7:41 am

Hi there,

I am making a standalone presentation application which will reside on a DVD disk. It will have links to PDFs and videos - which will also reside on the same disk. The end user will navigate the stack and open PDFs and videos at will. The PDFs and videos will open in the system's native applications (PC or Mac).

I have two questions about playing video files in the user's system player.

1. What would be the most universal video format for a cross platform application? For example - Is there a video format which both PC (Windows Media Player) and Mac (QuickTime) recognise? Or is QuickTime pretty much standard on PCs now-a-days?

2. If I have the video files (and PDFs) in a folder on the DVD disk - Where should I have the folder so that both Mac and PC users can access it - and what would the file path look like?

I hope someone can answer both these… I've read the documentation but the "media" section is only concerned with the Player Object - and the bit about Preventing Use of QuickTime on Windows is confusing.

Cheers,

Peter
