I think this is not right.

I think oleung is saying right clicking on either produces that same picture. I don't know what to tell you, oleung, I can't say as I've ever seen that behavior.

I might be wrong, but I think that is the 'recent apps' part of the dock. A new Mojave feature.

You can turn it on and off in the System Preferences->Dock

Ah, good catch, makes perfect sense! :D

Oliver, please check your "system settings" -> Dock -> Show recent apps in dock
(translated from german, last checkbox at the bottom on my german system)
