Unable to Run Mac Version (Community)

Since we have the Community Edition available for both PC and Mac, I thought, "Why don't I install LiveCode on both of my platforms?"
The installation for the PC version went well, but when attempting to download the Mac version, I was asked to re-register. This was a confusing process that ended up with me needing to reset my password for my "account" (why do I need an account for something that is Open Source?).
I did try to login with my email address and password (which worked with the PC installation) - but this was not recognized. I applied for a new password, and the appearing message informed me that it had been sent - yet I received nothing in my email. 3 times I tried this, yet nothing was sent.
I dare say, this would be most frustrating for someone wanting to adopt the LiveCode platform and its Open Source cause. I am one such person.
As a comparison - observe how easily one can download and install the Open Source "Blender" application:
