How do I play an audio file referenced on my hard disk?

I tried
play "/documents/numbers/Number2.wav"

I could not believe how little info Icould find on this subject in the dictionary or manual.

Read "11.1 File Name Specifications and File Paths" page 322 in the User Guide...

Did you try:

play ac "C:\documents\numbers\Number2.wav"
