HELP!! Advanced Higher Computing Project

Hi there,

This year I am sitting Advanced Higher Computing and as part of it we have to design a piece of software.

For my idea i decided to create a Planner for a average school child. For them to be able to log on to a server, message teachers with problems and for senior pupil, sign into class during their study periods.

I am unfortunetly at a lose end with my abilities and I am now starting to stress as my deadline is fast approaching.

Last year we didnt do anything remotely like this, and now im faced with chat clients, MySQL and several other things that I have very little knowledge about.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me out or point me In the right direction...

Well, you could not have chosen a better platform to make an application. LiveCode is about as RAD as you can get.

That said, there is a learning curve that cannot be circumvented, to reach even novice capability, as opposed to beginners capability.

That said, how much time do you have? If it is a month, you have a problem, though you might be able to cobble together something with our help. You will not be able to "own" the result, though it might well serve in your assignment. What I mean by "own", is that you were able to author the final gadget, with advice perhaps, as opposed to considerable and extensive handholding.

So, how much time?

I would suggest the right direction in which to point you is your tutor. Discuss whether there is an option to scale back the ambitiousness of your project, leave out the chat feature, etc. Discuss what learning of yours the project is expected to demonstrate, and focus on those areas. If you haven't covered SQL databases then is it expected your project should feature one, if it is then get your tutor to introduce the subject, and explain the level of understanding required. We can help with resources and advice, but you will have to do a lot of learning yourself. I don't think your offer to pay seems wise in the thread above. Dedicated tutoring is certainly valuable and chargeable, but it comes across a bit close to the "sell me a good assignment to claim as mine, so I can get the qualification without having to make any effort" type of plea seen in other forum sites.

Unfortunately I only have under a month but I have scrapped the chat client idea and I am now focusing on the log on system to allow students to register as present.

How far along are you in learning LC? Please describe in broad terms what you already know, and can already do.

It is not good that you are under time pressure. But if you have a head start, we can make something in that time frame, assuming you are committed to learning and working at a fast pace.
