I' have been away from revolution/Livecode for years now but I am working my way back through things again.
One little project I am working on has 2 cards with no background(group), and the remaining cards have a background on them containing 6-7 field and buttons.
In the property inspector for the group I have checked cant delete. Now I had thought that would keep me from deleting the last cd of that background, but it sure will delete anyway. Has something changed or is the another way to approach this. BTW, I believe the property inspector on live code now is awful.

There is nothing preventing LC from deleting a card even if it contains objects that cannot be deleted per se.

Interestingly, if you try to delete an object that has its cantDelete property set to "true", LC asks if you really want to do so, and if you say yes, it ignores you. This might be disconcerting. But at least it is playing by the rules.

But not so with a card containing what you thought was an inviolable child object. That will indeed be deleted.

As for the property inspector, you are obviously in v.8. I am still in beautiful v.6. And yes, it is embarrassing. We have been promised better. Watch this space...

A group can exist without being placed on any card. If you look in the Object menu you should see that the group is still available and was never deleted. But if you specifically try to delete the group itself, you won't be able to, at least not without a warning.

Unplaced groups are handy for storing resources so they are always available and don't need to clutter up a card. I often store icons and other images that way.
