What is the major differences between LC 8 and LC 9?

9 is in testing, 8 meets the criteria for "Stable". Once 9 is Stable 8 will no longer be in active development. At that point work will begin on adding new features in v10.

As with most software, at any given time there are two versions, which we could think of as "Now" and "Next".

If you're shipping something now, use the current Stable version.

If you're shipping something tomorrow, use most advanced Developer Preview edition so you can identify any issues that may prevent your shipping with it before it becomes a Stable release.

This pattern is useful for all versions, whether comparing v4 and v5, or v11 and v12, or beyond.

With its scope of features across so many platforms. LiveCode is unusually complex. But the team has done an unusually good job of delivering nearly-unmatched backward compatibility with each new version. Still, given its complexity, as with all software regressions happen. If there's an issue that may affect the specific needs of your app, the time to report it is before Stable release.
