Hello peterbill,
Windows XP are no longer supported by Microsoft and thus have security vulnerabilities, so LiveCode stopped supporting this version too.
What you describe was reported as a bug, but it only affected Windows XP, so the report is closed.

Kind regards,

Re: LiveCode 8.1.4 crash with File\Open Stack ... in Windows XP
Peterbill isn't getting that far, Richard, they are saying it is crashing when they try to open a stack. I wonder if it is one particular stack, or if it is all stacks, which isn't clarified.
Unless, of course, that is what you meant, hard to tell from what I see in the answer
@peterbill,
I have a vm of xp running 8.1.8, while it crashes on using 'open', you *can* open a stack by selecting the stack and clicking on it (if 8.x is associated as default) or using right click on the stack and open with if it is not.
Using "Open Recent" will also work. Open, as you point out, crashes it immediately on XP.
It is definitely a bug, and likely not something we can fix.
Video of the problem.
