Searching in the App store kinda SUCKS!
E.g. you will never find an iOS app in the store if your search with a Mac!?
I was desperately looking for my iOS app from within my Mac, no dice, so I asked
Apple and they verified that iOS apps will only be found in the store if you search for
them with a device where that namely iOS app will run on!?
No idea what THAT may be good for...

Klaus,
When I click on GET, it tells me that the requested version macOS is not available!

Ouch!
Sorry, no idea what to do to fix that.
What Mac and OS are you working with?

I can heartily recommend the M2 Air if you're looking for a laptop - it's an amazing machine.
However if you want to stick with your old machine, it's possible not all is lost:

Stam,
Thank you for your recommendation.
I am very satisfied that I got 10 years from my old macBook.
I did not see your post till after I went out and purchased a macBook pro M2 from Best Buy.
I am setting it up this morning.

Re: Download macOS Monterey? - Solved
Of course those of us without any obvious disposable income would have tried System Update first.
My wife recently inherited a MacBook Air from our younger son [go figure] and wanted to update it from macOS 11 to macOS 12 (cannot be bothered with the tarty names), so, in a fit of 'screaming brilliance' I checked System Update and, 'there it was', and so upgraded the thing.

The OP states he's used his MBP for 10 years so it's practically guaranteed that no official upgrade path exists (I know because my 2016 MBP was considered 'legacy' last year and could not be upgraded to latest OS).
"Checking system update first" would not have solved this no matter how screamingly brilliant you are

There is an unofficial but painful way to do this - see the URL posted above.
But if you do have disposable income, the newer laptops are a good investment - apart from vasty superior performance, battery life is greatly improved, they run quieter, keyboards are better etc. My M2 Air is about 10 times faster than my 2016 MBP and I can go days without recharging. Had the M2 MBP existed last year I would have gone with than, but since getting the M2 Air have not looked back...
