HELP! Buttons have disappeared

I just opened up a stack and a button has disappeared. There's over a hundred lines of code behind it. Where/how can I find the button? I have no idea what happened to it. Does anyone know where a back up of the stack would be? I'm on a Mac. Does the Mac store a backup somewhere?
Thanks,
Peter

make sure the button is actually deleted. often i make a new card by accident, and then think that all my stuff is gone for a second, until i remember. if you did not do anything since the button vanished, you might get it back with undo, but chances for that are rather slim.
by default the mac does not get back files, unless you have a time machine back up that is always connected. there is a feature coming with tiger that automatically creates backups, but that won't help you now of course

Thanks. I found a copy of the code that I had printed out a few days ago and it took me a few hours but I rewrote everything. I was playing with the inspector for the stack and I must have done something. Now, no matter whether I'm in edit mode or not, the inspector and code icons are grayed out. I can't edit anything on the stack. What did I do? How do I get out of this nightmare? When I go into applications on the Mac and into LiveCode there's an application called revPropertyPalette 1.livecode. What is this? Is it the cause of my problems?
Thanks,
Peter

I figured out what I did so I thought that I'd tell everyone in the hope that no one else does this. On the inspector for the card I checked the can't delete and can't modify options. I thought that it would just prevent the button with all of my code behind it from disappearing accidently, but it really caused me a problem.
I must have misunderstood what these options are for. If anyone can explain them to me, please do because I never want to go through what I went through last night. Between the button disappearing and this mistake it's about 5 hours of my life that I'll never have back.
