revVideoGrabber Issues

Hi! I am trying to experiment with revVideoGrabber on Win7 x64.
QT does not work at all on Windows under LC, and I see that is mentioned in a few posts, so I won't waste time on that.
Using VFW though, I am having a very hard time. I cannot get the Video Grabber demo stack to function 90+% of the time. I just have a black video rect and none of the settings dialogs come up, except once every 10 or so attempts of starting the stack. It actually ran twice so far, but I have not been able to duplicate that. I have made no changes to my system. I can successfully run the HP WebCam application that came with the system, before, after, and during a run of the Video Grabber stack, with both an internal and a USB webcam. I've also played with the order of opening the two applications. One time that the Video Grabber stack did run, it had HP WebCam and HP WebCam Splitter as sources (and was successful), another time just HP WebCam (but black window). But I can identify no consistencies with it running and anything else I do on the system.
I made a separate test stack from scratch, and it too has only run successfully once out of 10 or so attempts, duplicating the example Video Grabber stack, so I don't think it's the stacks themselves.
If anyone with Win7 knowledge can throw a few clues my way, I would appreciate it. I don't know where to look further. Thanks!
As a side note, even though I set Preferences to NOT load QT at startup, the LC IDE does so anyway - it ignores that Preferences setting apparently all others are saved successfully). So I cannot get the IDE to NOT load QT. Another interesting note : Even if I have Start Center set to NOT load, whenever I hit the QT or VFW selection buttons in Video Grabber, the Start Center loads and displays on top.
Post note: The QT preferences issue is gone - it now pays attention to Preferences. I assume it was pilot error on my part, but don't know why.
