Interactive Ebooks

Post by bidgeeman » Thu Oct 20, 2011 11:15 pm

Hi.
I'm thinking of upgrading to LiveCode 5 to produce interactive ebooks for Iphone/Ipad.
Is there anyone else here that has done this in Runrev?

Thanks
Bidge

Are you talking about interactivity in the manner of ".ePub" or as in "Myst"?

Hi. Not sure about Myst but I was referring to childrens interactive ebooks that consist of a story in interactive text and audio format, pages that turn, characters when touched play animation and audio. Also a little interaction with the environment that kids can play with after the story has been read. Almost a game but not quite.

Yes; LiveCode will handle all of that without a problem. I'm sure you'll find the visual effect you need (for page turns) already in LiveCode.

The ePub format, on the other hand, is in the process of being expanded although there's no real "standard" yet for much beyond text (which, of course, may be enlarged/reduced as the reader desires and will, therefore, re-flow the content), pictures and video.

Good luck! :D

Hi Nigels.
Well....I am still waiting to upgrade to Livecode as I am still on Runrev 4.5 so it's not up and going as yet. I thought I would put the feelers out on the forum before I made the leap into Livecode to see if there were anyone else doing similar projects as I am not a great coder. I was'nt sure if Livecode had the right elements like page turns etc for an ebook so wanted to clear that up. I was almost sold on Corona as it has a plugin which allows very easy creation of interactive ebooks but decided against it due to there being a slight lack of tutorial material and the people on their forum were not as helpfull as they are here at Rev. If anyone can add any extra info on creating interactive ebooks, be snippets of code or other it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Bidge
