upgrading for personal to commercial

Post by tzenobite » Mon Dec 26, 2011 4:05 pm

hi people! once upon a time i was an avid hypercard fan and programmer, now i'm giving lc a try with the trial version and i'm very exited, i'm feelin' i'm back in the nineties but with the iphone ;-)
now i'm not sure to pay the full pro license price, it's a bit high for me now, i'm trying to figure out if buying the personal pack (to try to make something real) let me to upgrade to the pro pack in the future at a reduced price or not...
someone else here has done the same?
thank!

matteo (italia)
how many hypercardist are needed to change a light bulb? one to actually do it while at least a dozen more are finding out a slightly different way to do it

Hi Matteo

Two points to ponder on.

1. Unless your going to sell your creation then I would just stay with the personnel version and when you're ready to market it then upgrade.
2. Wait for awhile while your getting into it again as you may feel later that its not for you. You would have lost only the price of the personnel version.

As far as I'm aware there is no difference between the personnel and the professional version. So you have no limitation placed on you by the difference licensing system par being
able to sell you own creation.

Hope this helps in your discussion.

Regards
Nigel

you're right, but i'm just using the trial version and i have already done one small app, so i'm pretty sure i will do my best with lc
ayway, i'll go with the personal pack for now, even i'm still wondering if rr will let the personal pack users upgrade to business pack at a reduced price...

The personal version incorporates a nagscreen in builds as well. Not a big deal for personal use, but yeah later on if you want to sell or distribute you'll want to upgrade. I'm with Nigel though. Stick with personal until you're sure. For details on how upgrades work (yes upgrades are available)

Also, I have both some commercial stuff as well as android personal and my store account says this:
You can upgrade your LiveCode license from Personal to Commercial at any time, simply by paying the difference in price. Your LiveCode tools license and all deployment add-ons will be upgraded.

Not sure how version upgrades would work meaning if you have 5.0 personal and they're up to 7.9, would there still be a savings to do an upgrade, or just pay for the commercial.
