Newbie problems with Rev Studio installation...

Ok, I'm totally green to this application, but did try it out last year under rev 2.8.1 and did not have any problems. However...

I just started using Rev Studio again, upgraded to 2.9 and have a few odd issues that did not appear last year:

1. When trying to open video tutorials, Rev crashes with the following error: "Revolution Engine for Win 32 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I can send an error report, but can not debug. Once the error report is sent, the application closes.

2. When I click "Rev Online", I can not access "My Space" or "User Spaces". The "Learning Center" does not appear.
If I try accessing My Space or User Spaces, it reports " There was an error while querying the server. Would you like to try again?" Trying again gets the same results.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
I will check my firewall in the mean time.

Hi sixwings

Welcome to the Forum! I can't help you with number 1 but as for number 2, I recently posted a similar query in Off-Topic. I'm having similar probs as you with accessing Rev Online, as is everyone else, I now realise. We'll all have to sit it out til the server is up and running again...

:)

PS Just thought: prob number one could be because of the server down as well...

Hi sixwings,

I had a case where opening RevOnline caused a crash. It appeared that QuickTime was the culprit. Uninstalling QT fixed the problem, but without it you can't see the tutorials, of course. It is indeed possible that the unavailability of the RevOnline server causes the crash, but this is not very likely.

Best,

Mark

I forgot some other important info regarding the Rev Engine for Win32 issue:

I tried to uninstall and re-install the application, however, when I went to Add / Remove Programs it did not appear there.
I did some reading and found that there should be an un-installer in the Install Data directory, but that program was 0Kb in size and would not run.

So, I just moved the Revolution Studio folder out of Program files to a different drive and re-installed 2.8, then upgraded to 2.9 but the problem persists.

I figure there is some registry issue, but do not have a way to fix.
If there is an un-installer utility, that might help.

Thanks
