Lists, recordSets, and large databases

I am an experienced developer who is new to Rev. I need some direction in working with lists, recordsets, and databases.
I am iterating through builds of a major new piece of software. The first working prototypes will use stacks as database tables and then we will be using either FrontBase or Valentina, embedded, on internal LANs and over the internet. I have FrontBase installed, but not Valentina just yet.
I need to know how to build sophisticated lists from cards for the initial prototypes and how to work through the lists using them like recordsets.
Then I need to know how to connect and interact with FrontBase and Valentina. How to bring result sets into either virtual recordsets on the client or into lists on the client so that I can manipulate them locally, including inserts, edits, and deletes, sorting, adding more selected data and/or removing records for a more refined results set.
I know that it is a lot to ask, but I can't find any examples or manual or tutorials that seem to point me in the right direction. Any hints, links, directions, or detail examples would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
