Hi,

As a beginner, I would appreciate suggestions for how best to learn the scripting language.

I have tried a few scattered tutorials and looked at several samples: steep learning curve for me.

Kind Regards,

Hi saratogacoach

It's a steep learning curve for lots of people too (myself included), if that's any consolation.

One way I could suggest is to "narrow your field of vision"; by that I mean start on a couple of specific projects, and learn all you need to know about those (Forum help included, of course). If you have specific problems pertinent to your own work, the solutions tend to sink in more.

I find learning Rev is a three-steps-forward-two-steps-back process sometimes and can be very frustrating; perseverence and persistance is the only way, I think.

Good luck!

Thanks for these suggestions.

There are many excellent resources.

I learn best using an organized, step-by-step approach. So, this site is very helpful for me: http://revolution.byu.edu/indexgeneric.php.

Additional ingredients: time and persistence. :)

This forum and or the mailing list are one of the best tools to aid in learning.

One of the best ways I've found to learn any programming language is to pick a small project to start off with. I usually start off with either a calculator or notepad project since they are small, but yet you can learn a lot from them. If there are already existing examples of a calculator or notepad, avoid trying to peek in on them unless you have no choice but to do so in order to continue your progress.

All along the way, looking in the documents/help for each command and function you need as you build your learning project.
