I cannot reliably read the textStyle (or textColor either) of chunks of text.

Some text in a field "myField" responds sensibly to:

get the textStyle of char x to y of field "myfield"

What do you get?

Have you tried with the effective keyword?

get the effective textstyle of char 4 to 5 of fld "myField"
