Testing the brand new LiveCode 8.1 - a report

Hello
I used 7.1.4 so far and yesterday I tried the brand new 8.1 (I never used 8.0) . My impressions – especially UI.
Some nasty issues from 7 are now gone
esp.:
1) Many windows opened very low on the screen with only a narrow stripe visible on the bottom of the screen
2) After some time, some windows (esp. inspectors) did not open at all (in my case). The only help was to quit and restart LC.
3) Drag and drop in Project Browser was buggy
4) The look and feel of inspectors is much better now
5) The “Same control opened in other inspector” (or so) message in the inspector seemed to appear frequently for unjustified reasons
Issues observed:
1) Grid template editor: On window close, “Don’t save” works same as “Save”.
2) Project Browser: Clone Control icon may not work properly. When the control is a card, it sometimes results in showing the card in the Project Browser (!) and disabling the browser. Closing and opening the browser doesn’t help. Need to quit and restart LC.
3) I was unable to copy/paste a card. I have a way-out though: Create a copy of the stack file *.livecode, open the copy and drag the requested card from the copy-stack to the original one
Requests:
1) On start (possibly in Start Center): It should be possible to have the windows reappear from the last session (in their places), including tabs in code editor – with all stacks opened as previously. This should be configurable though, if not available as an option in Start Center.
2) Some crucial windows still do not have a keyboard shortcut. Especially Project Browser Open Recent File and the revApplicationOverview plugin (former App Browser)
3) Project Browser: After selecting New Control icon (bottom), the new control should get focus
4) Code editor: Some frequently used settings should be available from icons with current status immediately visible. Especially Debug Script Debug Mode and Edit Variable Checking
5) I was unable to go through controls in Project Browser with content of the same inspector window (with padlock open) refreshing for a particular control. This should work (best with keyboard). This even worked in 7 App Browser (but only for controls and not for cards).
Questions
1) In Project Browser: Right Click on a control Show In Project Browser is available from popup menu
a. Does it make sense?
b. What does it do?
2) “Unlock Inspector” (padlock icon) on any control may lead to inspecting the stack and losing the original inspector (pressing padlock again doesn’t help). For me – a bug (same was in 7).
If something is unclear, PLMK.
Best,
Greg Falda
