BlueMango course
Has anyone purchased this? What did you think? Is this good for someone who is a beginner or more suited for experienced programmers?

I actually need to learn LiveCode. I bought the book by Dan S. from way back when but I was hoping to find something more modern
and up-to-date that can really teach me Livecode and the proper way to code things. the framework from Bluemango looks promising
but I don't even fully know livecode yet so i'm not sure if it would be for me or not.

Re: BlueMango course
Hi Jesse,
Have a look at LiveCode.tv. Often, there are sessions that are extremely useful for starting LiveCode programmers.
Here's a collection of useful links.
I do LiveCode coaching and consulting. Send me a message if you are interested.
Kind regards,
Mark

Re: BlueMango course
Thanks. I will check these out. As a beginner its been hard to decide where to start. I have looked at numerous resources but its hard to know if some are even current or not. I have determined the best way to go is probably dive in to creating a project. That said I have began diving into the datagrid but really wish I could find some "traditional" training. Since this is just something for the spare time I dont have the time or funds to hire private training either. So needless to say it is a challenge for me but I am asking questions on the forum and hopefully I'll get the hang of things slowly but surely.
I only asked about BlueMango course because its the only one of its kind I have found and the fact the focus on the only framework for Livecode which of course makes building your applications even easier but I haven't seen much talk about anyone using the framework or buying the course.

Re: BlueMango course
Mark,
Is livecode.tv your website? I ask because I went to access the urls on this page http://blog.livecode.tv/2010/12/post-fa ... ird-event/
and they all appear to be broke
such as http://qurl.tk/ly. Do you know where I might find the actual videos?

Re: BlueMango course
Hi Jesse,
The website isn't mine only, but I made those qurl.tk links. Qurl.tk has been replaced with Qery.us because I couldn't rely on Dot.tk's services. If you replace qurl.tk with qery.tk, then you will be able to see the videos. I'll edit the blog post as soon as I have a moment to spare.
Best,
Mark

Hope you don't mind a completely unsolicited opinion... but here goes anyway.

I agree that your best learning option is to dive into a project, yet starting with using the datagrid may not be your best choice. The DG is a very complex component with a massive API, which from what I've noticed, has tripped up more than a few seasoned LiveCode users. Might I suggest that you try one or two simpler project to learn with first, before tackling the DG?
...just don't want to see someone dive off into the deep end of the pool, before they finish their basic swimming lessons.

Best regards,

Re: BlueMango course
Doc,
I appreciate your opinion. Yes the dg does seem massive. I have been fortunate to find the CRUD Example by townsend which really has
helped me get a jump start on the dg a bit but it does seem slightly overwhelming at times. The reason I'm considering BLUE MANGO's
course is the idea of a framework sounds great and learning some best practices from the beginning from a seasoned RunRev programmer
rather than trying to invent my own wheel may be good for me. However... I'm slightly reluctant because I'm unsure what I will
get with the course and if it will teach someone like myself what I need to know. I'm already experienced with php programming I
have been doing this for years so I'm anticipating the proper direction from a seasoned programmer could help me to get rolling
quicker than just on my own.

Jesse
I purchased the Blue Mango Course for the same reasons you stated. I wanted to understand the application framework and practices and principles of sound coding. I have found it excellent for me, in helping me understand and using the framework as well as the short cuts in creating tools to help you develop faster, like behaviors and image storage locations. If you watched the free first course, it is consistent as to what you will see in the next 3. The course includes documentation, work files and homework. You create a ToDo project through the course. The Application Framework works well in helping you understand a seasoned programmers' thought process in how to structure your program. The only thing I wish is that the addition of a Mobile Framework, lighter weight, to use on iOS and Androids, but many of the principles i have picked up I am learning to apply in the mobile world. Blue Mango also has the YogaSQL which is heavy datagrid study, which i also purchased and did find was a little heavy for me at this time, but looking forward to progressing to that point. Nice thing is the he uses the Application Framework to create the YogaSQL so going back and looking at the Yoga, now, begins to make more sense.
Any, just thought i would chime in.
cheers

Re: BlueMango course
Thanks so much for your feedback on the course
I was beginning to think no one had taken it lol.
You make it sound very promising.
